Check out this recent article in USA Today. It looks like the lack of personal, face to face interaction has left our latest generation, The Millennials, holding the bag. They seem to think texting during a job interview, bringing their pet to an interview, or having their parent negotiate compensation is perfectly acceptable. It’s puzzling that what seems common sense has not made it to the temporal lobe of our new workforce.
Job growth showed signs of improvement over March numbers. Fears were diminished in light of the recent release of April job growth numbers. (more…)
Has anyone noticed the EXTREMELY poor interviewing etiquette displayed by many Millennials? We recently had a college grad excuse himself to take a phone during a job interview. The call wasn’t an emergency but rather a personal call from a friend. Needless to say we were shocked and needless to say the interview was over. The candidate was shocked as well when we terminated the interview. Are they that clueless? Could it be they were left in the proverbial womb too long by parents allowing them to do what “feels right”, or is this generation simply late to the maturity party?

DIRECTV has implemented an assessment for its Call Center and Technician Employees. The online tool is meant to determine who is interested in these jobs and what the job would be like if they were hired. In 2010 the HR team added this tool to their process to try to get the best people and reduce their turnover. (more…)
